Storytelling in the Curriculum
Storytelling is a great stimulus. While they are listening, children's imaginations are constantly visualising the stories in their own animated way and empathising with the characters and the episodes of the story. Storytelling is also an easy and appealing way to transmit knowledge and understanding. A stimulating storytelling session can be used to promote interest and activity or can help explain difficult concepts.
Simple Stories and Folktales.
A simple story like Jack and the Beanstalk or Little Red Riding Hood has potential for explorations into maths, science or arts and crafts. Tales can express the interconnectedness, or ecology of all things. Cause and effect are expressed in Folktales in a way that is often easily accessible and understandable? Many storytellers were employed last year to promote understanding of slavery in the past and Britain's part in it.
