Live Literature

At its very essence traditional storytelling is live literature. It is exciting, immediate, engaging and passionate. The spoken language is infinitely adaptable and is supported by many other communication devices making it suitable for all levels of language ability.

The traditional stories carry a wide range of cultural, social and emotional content. The emotions are supported by the narrative context, allowing children's emotional development and understanding in a safe and secure manner.

Storytelling is a collaboration between teller and listener, it is not a passive experience for the children.

We are collaborating to support learning professionals develop creative uses of language with children, as well as disseminate example of good practice. Live Literature education exists for the benefit of teachers, librarians, writers, storytellers, poets, playwrights, education advisers, cultural co-ordinators, university staff and parents.

In addition to sessions of storytelling many of our storytellers focus on promoting the development of innovative and sustainable projects that explore the creative use of language in classrooms, with teachers and storytellers working alongside children to enrich their experience over an extended period of time.
